About the Nebraska Green Party

Basic Facts about the Nebraska Green Party The Nebraska Green Party is part of a global political movement which seeks to enact change through democratic, non-violent, grassroots, non-corporate means. It is a member of the Green Party of the United States.

The Nebraska Green Party is a small but swiftly growing party. In the 2004 election three Congressional candidates, Roy Guisinger, Steve Larrick and Dante Salvatierra garnered a total of over 10,000 votes statewide.

In 2006, there were two state wide candidates. Steve Larrick for State Auditor, who received close to three percent of the vote, and Doug Paterson who ran for Secretary of State and obtained just over five percent of the vote. Obtaining over five percent of the vote in a statewide race ensured that the Nebraska Green Party has statewide ballot status for the 2008 election.

Our party maintains its platform and makes its political decisions based on our Ten Key Values rather than the values of corporate donations. We believe that the Democratic and Republican parties primarily serve the interests of big business and the fickle whims of national polls.

In Nebraska, our party works to increase the utilization of clean and renewable wind energy. We believe in keeping our streets and homes safe by establishing sensible gun laws. We believe in protecting family farms and using sustainable, organic farming methods. We advocate for campaign finance reform and the establishment of instant runoff voting procedures in elections. We believe in civil rights and civil liberties. We will protect a woman's right to have a safer and legal abortion. We are opposed to the death penalty because it is unjust, inhumane and does nothing but perpetuate the cycle of violence. We strongly believe in prioritizing public education. We believe in keeping Nebraska's highways and rail roads safe by preventing the flow of nuclear waste across our state. We believe in protecting our wetlands, forests and praries from encroaching urban sprawl. We believe that the Nebraska Green Party brings voters a positive hope-filled message, rather than a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Our party is managed by the Council which is comprised of 2 Co-Chairs, a Secretary, a Treasurer and several district representatives. They are elected by the body of members during an annual convention.
